With about 250 volunteer fire fighters in 8 fire stations in Gangelt (town), Stahe, Birgden, Kreuzrath, Schierwaldenrath, Breberen, Hastenrath and Langbroich.
In case of emergency
In case of emergency you can call the number 1 1 2 from all over Europe. No matter if it is a medical emergency, a fire or any other accident. You will be connected to the next fire control center. Don’t be afraid, in the fire control center they speak English too.
To help you as good as possible the fire control center needs detailed information:
- Where is the emergency?
- What’s happened?
- What number of people are injured?
- What injuries and damage?
- Wait for further questions of the control center!

Smoke Detectors Could Save Your Life!
Most fires occur at night when people are sleeping. A smoke detector can alert you when there is a fire, in time to save your life. Smoke detectors work by sensing rising smoke from a fire and sounding an alarm.
Due to the fact that smoke rises, the best place to install smoke detectors is the ceiling or the highest place in the room. Install smoke detectors in corridors, bedrooms and children’s room on every floor.
You can buy smoke detectors online or in local electronic stores. We suggest to buy smoke detectors that carry the ‘Q’ sign (together with ‘vds’ or ‘kriwan’) to make sure that the detector is of high quality.
Grease fire – Do not use water!
If grease is burning in your kitchen, don’t use water to extinguish the fire. This will lead to an explosion. Suffocate the fire with a cover if possible.
